Fast times and a new women’s half marathon course record: The 26th International WACHAUmarathon by Brooks once again delivered a fantastic running event in perfect conditions

More than 8,200 participants took on the races along the Danube, significantly more than in the previous year. In the traditionally strong half marathon field, perfect running conditions on the fast course through the Wachau once again produced outstanding performances.

Kenya’s Nathan Kipkoech won the half marathon in 1:00:41, finishing ahead of last year’s winner and course record holder Mkulia Kipkandie, also from Kenya, who took second place in 1:01:30. Third place went to another Kenyan, Shadrack Kenduiywo, in 1:03:02. The course record of 59:47, set in 2025, was never seriously under threat.

New course record in the women’s Wiener Städtische Half Marathon
The women’s half marathon course record lasted just one year: Kenya’s Christine Njoki improved last year’s mark by 16 seconds, finishing in 1:08:17 – in her first appearance over the half marathon distance. Fellow Kenyan Selly Chesaria took second place in 1:09:31. Third place went to the best Austrian in the women’s half marathon field, Elena Stockinger, in 1:24:21.

Victory in the marathon went to James Price of Great Britain in 2:45:30. Austria’s Nikolai Avinante finished second in 2:53:27, while Roman Malanka of Ukraine took third place in 2:54:20.
The women’s marathon saw an Austrian one-two finish: Katrin Zauner was the fastest woman across the finish line in 3:05:29, with Monika Friedl taking second place in 3:15:33. German athlete Carmen Scharpfenecker finished third in 3:17:14.

More than 800 runners took on the 11-kilometre course from Achleiten. The fastest women were Austria’s Susanne Silberbauer (39:45), ahead of Sophie Ritzmaier (41:22) and Carola Bendl (43:47). Austria’s Florian Tauscher was the fastest man in 37:16, followed by Germany’s Lukas Schneider in 37:20 and Austria’s Emanuel Faltl in 41:02.

The 27th WACHAUmarathon by Brooks will take place on 26 September 2027
