Anniversary: 25th edition of the International WACHAUmarathon! Now 2025!

The weinmalige® run through the world cultural heritage has established itself as one of the most popular running events in the country. And it cannot be stopped by the floods of 2024. Fast routes, tailor-made distances and a flexible relay competition lead through the unique backdrop of the WACHAU.

The perfect mix of unique scenery, route characteristics, atmosphere and perfect organization: with this attractive mix, the “vintage run through the world cultural heritage” continues to shape the Austrian running scene to this day. We want to celebrate our 25th anniversary properly in 2025.

The route runs along the Danube past picturesque wine terraces and medieval villages through a world-famous region that was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

In addition to the classic distances marathon (42.195 km starting in Emmersdorf) and half marathon (21.1 km starting in Spitz), there is also the quarter marathon (11 km starting in Achleiten), which can also be completed as a team of four. Since 2011, the WACHAUmarathon has been the only local marathon to offer the opportunity to compete in two, three or four teams in different relay strengths over the full distance.

Because of its topographical characteristics, the route is equally popular among elite and amateur runners. The small differences in altitude, without any significant inclines, allow for a continuous running rhythm that promotes fast times for all levels.
